The Problem
At iFoster, we’re tackling the urgent challenge faced by nearly 400,000 children in the US foster care system—a system that underinvests in their future, leaving most isolated and unprepared for adulthood. With minimal funding for their upbringing and limited access to supportive resources, these young people face staggering odds:
Within four years of aging out:
- 70% will be on government assistance
- 50% will be unemployed
- 50% will experience homelessness
- 25% will not have completed high school
The results of this are $1 million in economic burden to society for each young person we fail, as well as wasted potential in what they could contribute to society if given the right opportunities.
The Solution
Our goal is to give children and youth in foster care the same resources and opportunities that their peers outside of foster care receive. We are the bridge between the child welfare system and the world outside, filling the gaps and collectively helping young people in foster care to grow, thrive, and achieve their goals.
We do this through a set of innovative, youth-centered programs designed to meet real needs and create lasting impact, including:
- ESSENTIAL RESOURCES AND SUPPORTS provided to foster youth, caregivers, and agency workers, through iFoster’s portal.
- REMADE IN AMERICA, a circular-economy initiative that recycles clothing and trains foster youth in entrepreneurship and supply chain skills while closing critical resource gaps.
- iFOSTER’S JOBS PROGRAM, which prepares and connects transition-age youth to meaningful employment and career pathways.
- VOICE OF THE FOSTER CARE COMMUNITY, elevating lived experience to inform services, policy, and system improvement.
- PEERS PAVING THE PATH, connecting youth to Enhanced Care Management services and trusted support as they navigate life during and after foster care.
